Music Ministries

At FUMC Murfreesboro

The worship of God is our central focus, with men women, youth and children from all walks of life sharing their musical talents in worship each week.

Adult Choirs

We have two rehearsal options, Sundays at 4:00 p.m. and Wednesdays at 7:15 p.m. and two service options, Sundays at 8:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. for adult choir. The choirs for both traditional services sing the same selections, so you are able to choose the rehearsal and service times that best suit you. There is no audition required to participate in these groups. A basic knowledge of music reading is very helpful, but you can learn to read or improve your reading skills during choir rehearsals.

A nursery is provided by request whenever the choir meets.

Contact Elliott Peterson at the church office at 615-893-1322.

Youth Choir

Rehearsals are 5:00 p.m. Sunday evenings. All youth in 7th and 12th grade are invited to join the Youth Choir. Members of this choir lead the music in worship once per month. Please come on Sundays during the school year at 5:00 pm.

We also have a youth handbell choir that rehearses Sunday afternoons at 4:15 pm in balcony of the sanctuary.  Contact Elliott Peterson  for more information.

Handbell Choirs

Each season, we look for new bell ringers to fill in the ranks and for alternates to substitute for regular ringers at rehearsals and performances. We welcome new ringers from the congregation and from the community.

Please contact Elliott Peterson or Kristi Shamburger at the church or at E-mail if you are interested in handbells.

The Sanctuary Ringers

Rehearsals are on Sundays from 5:00-6:00 p.m.  Contact Elliott at 893-1322 to join this group.  The Sanctuary Ringers handbell choir is available to adults interested in ringing handbells. Members are invited to join the group at the start of the Fall or the Spring season. Sometimes we have spots available at other times during the year.

Note: We currently have openings for two adult handbell ringers in our Sanctuary Ringers handbell choir. If you have played an instrument in the past or have experience reading music you will be in great shape to begin ringing handbells. The rehearsals are from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday evenings and the group plays for worship one time per month. Please contact Kristi Shamburger by phone at 260-249-5740 or by email at dksham@yahoo.com for more information.

The Chancel Ringers

Rehearsals are on Sundays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. The Chancel Ringers are an advanced handbell choir ringing five octaves of handbells. Members are invited to join the group by the Director of Music as slots become available.  This is an auditioned choir.  Members audition for this group by playing in the Sanctuary Ringers.  All members are drawn from the Sanctuary Ringers no matter their personal skill level or past ringing experience.
