Thursday, October 20: Tennessee Older Adult Conference The fourth annual meeting for all the older adults in the Tennessee Conference will again be held at First United Methodist Church this year. The speaker for this year is Marvin Cropsey. He is the editor of Mature Years magazine, published by the United Methodist Publishing House. He is responsible for producing The Book of Discipline and The Book of Resolutions. He is a popular Bible teacher and retreat leader for older adult groups. Mr. Cropsey is married to Karen and they have two adult sons, a granddaughter and a grandson. We are very fortunate to have him speak at our conference. Registration will start at 8:30 in Fellowship Hall Cost: $15.00 Send check to: Sunday, October 23: Children's Sabbath, Both Traditional ServicesOn Sunday, October 23rd, we will celebrate and honor the children of our church. During the 8:30 and 11:00 am traditional worship service all children’s choirs will sing and older children will participate in the service by reading scripture, ushering, and welcome. We hope everyone will join us for this special time in our church life taken to celebrate the children of our church. Young children are invited to come forward for Children’s Time and receive a small gift from Ms. Tami. Monday, October 24: A Fiery and Festive Evening: Music for Brass & Percussion, 7:30 p.m. featuring The MTSU Symphonic Brass Ensemble, The MTSU Graduate Brass Ensemble and MTSU Faculty. Thursday, October 27: Roadruners Trip to Cumberland County Playhouse production of "Fiddler On The Roof" Join us on Thursday, October 27th, for a trip to Cumberland County Playhouse to see their wonderful production of “Fiddler on the Roof”. Lunch will be at the Cumberland Mountain State Park Restaurant. Cost is $45.00 and includes the play, lunch, and transportation. Reservations must be made and paid for by Monday, October 10th by calling the church office (893-1322). We have early lunch reservations so we MUST be ready to leave by 8:30 am. Looking forward to a great trip. Saturday, October 29: Festival of Art and Crafts, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. This fund raising event for our church will benefit the Nurture Group consisting of eight committees. If you have a business and would like to help in advertising this Sunday, October 30: Commitment Sunday at all services. Right now, members of the congregation are preparing to call all of the membership, as well as friends of the congregation, to ask that they make a special effort to be at one of the 4 worship services at 1st UMC on Sunday, October 30. Toward the end of each of those worship services, there will be an opportunity for everyone to bring forward a commitment card indicating how generous they hope to be with the mission Friday, November 4: Meals for Room in the Inn Ministry Room in the Inn is a homeless shelter that provides temporary shelter to single adults and families with children. The first Friday of each month our church provides the evening meal for residents. We currently have a great need for classes, individuals, or groups who would be interested in funding or providing a meal on Friday, November 4th or Friday, December 2nd. Sunday, November 13: FUMY Parental Education Series, 5:00-7:00 p.m., Room 112 If you are a parent of a teen or tween, pay attention. On Sunday, November 13th, FUMY will be hosting Clint Thomas of Chaos Theory. We have invited him to make sure that you understand the variety of de-cisions your children are faced with because of the media that surrounds them. It is obvious that the media influences our students and often in self-destructive ways. Parents: we expect to see you on the 13th. Clint will make sure you understand the full picture of the media's influence on your child, and share with you a productive and proactive strategy for engaging your child's media usage.
